Eight students in Year 8 and 9 recently travelled to Serbia on a Drama exchange with the Belgrade English Language Youth Theatre. New friendships were formed quickly after the two groups met and began devising a drama piece based on the cultural differences/similarities between the UK and Serbia, with a key theme of ‘rivers’ as a focal point.
Student Ian Riby said: "I liked experiencing a different culture and devising ideas with the Serbians. It was great to see how great we all got along despite the language barrier." Head of Department for Performing Arts at Esher High, Mr. Allin added: "It was amazing to see how quickly the students ‘clicked’ with each other. The collaboration has proven to be extremely positive and eye-opening for everyone involved." The Serbian company is due to visit the UK at the end of April culminating in a final performance, ‘New Waters’, on Wednesday 3rd May at 7:00pm in the Performing Arts Centre at Esher High School. The performance will also be streamed live to Serbia. Admission is in the form of a donation and we would love your support! The Performing Arts department and PAPA would like to extend a big thank you to the RC Sherriff Trust for the generous grant provided for the project to make this exchange happen.
